Christmas dinner + Paje!

Last weekend, on saturday, we were at a christmas dinner. We know some Norwegian families, that invited us. It started with a volleyball match (they have a very nice volleyball court in their garden), and it was very fun. They live in a quite big house with many apartments inside, all the people that lives there are Norwegians. We sat on the roof when we ate (they have a big roof). We ate different things like samosa, springroll, salad etc.
After dinner we (the children) went down to one of the apartments and watched "Alvin and the Chipmunks 2". While we watched we ate Norwegian chocolate (delicious!). Then we had to leave.

On sunday, we went with two of the Norwegian families to a place called Paje. It is a very nice beach there, so we were swimming a lot! For lunch I ate pizza, which was very good. After lunch, we played american football on the beach. It was really fun, but som of the adults were a little bit violent. They are so strong, so they were pushing each other threw themselves over each other. Last time we were at Paje, some of them got big bruising. After some hours there, we went home.

Fun-run!

Last sunday it was something called a fun-run here in Zanzibar. If you wanted to run you could choose between 5km (fun-run), 10/11km (relay) or 21km (half-marathon). I chose 5km. It was very fun but very hard. It started at 7 in the morning and it was very hot. We started at a stadium and it was some drinking stations on the way where you could get a small bottle of water. When I almost was back, I was so tired and hot that I started to freeze, and my legs was hurting, so I had to walk a little bit. When I got back, I was so tired that the only thing I wanted to do wat to sit down. Istead we had to stand in a line and wait for our turn to write our names and where we come from, etc. After that we got some energy-biscuits, energy-drink and some water. Then we just sat down, waiting for the others from the school to finish. While we sat there, a lot of people fainted and couldn't stand because of the heat and not enough water. My dad ran the 21km run, and when he got there, it was no more energy-drink and no more biscuits so the only thing left
was water.
Us Norwegians before the run.
Me after the run.
My father after the run.
We had to stand in a line like thos right after the run.

Local restaurant visit

On Thursday we were at a local restaurant called Lukman (I don’t know for sure how to spell it). There you could see a lot of food, and just pick what you want. We bought food and something to drink for 9000Tsh (40Nok, about 6 USD) for all 3 of us. After we were finished we had food for our watchman too.
Food we ordered:
3 Chapati
1 boul of miced meat
A large plate of potatoes with sauce
1 boul of pilau rice
1 boul of vegetables in coconut sauce
Chicken
Biriani rice with meat
1.5l water
For the whole restaurant trip (dalla dalla to town, eat, dalla dalla back) it costed us 10800Tsh (43Nok, 7 USD).
Some of the food. It tasted better than it looks.

Jambiani forest (monkeypark)

We went to a monkeypark to see monkeys, and it was very funny. The monkeys were called red monkeys and can only be found at Zanzibar. The monkeys were kind of interested so they come close and they were very cute!

They were a little family, some were playing, some were sleeping, and some just sat there looking at us.

Vacation!

I am sorry that I am writing this so late, but this is about my autumn vacation.

After we were in Jambijani, we went to Bagamoyo, a small town at mainland.
We stayed at a hotel called “Mary’s nice place”, but it wasn’t that nice. We had to bend down to get a little pressure of water in the shower. We got 2 slices of bread with egg for breakfast, and tea.
When we sat, drinking coke, outside a local shop, a lady started talking to us. At first she wanted my mum to taste her food, but that didn’t happen. She told us that she was a teacher and that she had a school nearby with another girl. When my mum said that she was a teacher too, she became a little bit more interested, so she invited us to come to the school. We went to the school, and there we got to know that it was a Montessori school, for children at the age 3-5.

The children was very cute and it seemed like they enjoyed the school.

My dad knows this orphan home in Bagamoyo, so we went there to see how it was.

It was 2 houses, with 9 children in each house.

And I gave each of the homes a handball!

We also went on a little trip in a very small “car” to learn/see thing about Bagamoyo.
On the trip we went to a crocodile farm. They told us that they sold the skin to Italy and the meat to China.

My dad decided to go to a barber shop and he told the guy to do whatever he liked.

He started like this.

And ended up like this!

And that was my vacation!

Jambiani!

Now we have one week + a weekend vacation from the school, so we went to Jambiani for some days. We know a girl called Kristin and her sister, Margrethe owns a house in Jambiani. She owns it with 3 (I think...) other persons, and the house is very big (5 rooms, 10 beds). We were there from friday to sunday. We = Mum, dad, Margrethe, Camilla (a friend of Margrethe) and me.
This is the house.
Haha! Sideways, I hope it's okay! We could walk on the beach to some restaurants!
We went out to dive in a very thin boat!
My dad was fishing and he got 4 fish! All the same size :)
The view from the terrace, we could just walk right through the gate and into the ocean.

I am a pro photographer :D!

We were in Jambiani this weekend, and I will write more about that in another post.
But there I took some pictures that I think was cool.
Here you can see some:
I think this one was cool!
This picture is not very nice, but kind of cool. This is actually some salt on my plate, but it looks like the planet Mars or something like that.
 ♥♥♥
I just thought this was a cool picture ;)
 A fork!

This is the picture I'm most proud of (it's my dad)!
On the way to the restaurant...
On the way back!

Baking ♥!

When we got here, people told us not to eat chocolate.
So I found out that instead of sweets every saturday, I was going to make a cake every weekend.
But some of the ingredients are different, so they did not become very good.
I have made 4 brownies/chocolate cake and only one of them was good.
Nr.1 = Almost cookies :) A "adult" taste, kind of like a "dark" taste. I did not like it very much (It look better on the picture than it really was)

Nr.2 = Too sweet, like caramell. (I am sorry. I dont have a picture of this cake)

Nr.3 = Good! (Sorry! I dont have a picture of this either!)
Nr.4 = It was in the oven a little bit too long... It also had a kind of "adult" taste.

But I think all of them could have been good if I made them with ingredients from Norway :)

Good news!

Hi!

I have some good news for you!

I just wanted to tell you something about  commeting.
Some of you told me that it did not work to comment, that you needed to be a google user.
But now I have fixed that :) So if you want to comment, just do it!

But if it does not work, I would really appreciate if you told me.

This time: Sheik is missing!

Since tuesday Sheik Farid Hadi has been missing. He is a muslim leader, so of course people notice. Some people think that the police did it, but the police disagrees. They say that they don't know where he is, but they are looking for him. There have been battles between the police and the people (mostly young men), and they are throwing stones and burning tyres. Because of the riots, schools are closed, but not our.
Over 50 people are arrested and one policeman killed.
Zanzibar has for a long time wanted to be it's own country, so that may also be one of the reasons for the riots. All of this happens around stone town so thankfully it doesn't happen here.

Here you can see... I haven't seen any of this, but it doesn't look nice on the pictures.

Shein is missing :(

For a while ago now (maybe on week++) we didn't find Shein (our little chicken) that morning.
He is still gone...
Here you can see a video my father (his blog: www.zanzibarmzungo.wordpress.com) edited about Shein: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fntGzewIoZk&feature=youtu.be
Here is some memory images:

But... Let's hope he will come back! :)

Church!!!

Hello :)

Okay, so on sunday we went to the church. A swahili, christian church. We didn't understand one word! Or actually, sometimes they said some numbers that I understood, but only that. What we did was sitting there and listening, and sometimes all the other people sat down on their knees to pray, so we did the same. And two times during the church service we had to handshake all the people close to us. We had no idea why! The most funny part was that in the end everybody was suddenly watching us and we didn't know why, so my dad asked, I think... (don't remember). They said that we should tell something about us. So he said something like this: "We are a norwegian family, that are going to stay here in Zanzibar for one year. We thought it would be interessting to come to see the church, so here we are. We don't understand anything of what's happening (everybody lauhged) but we really like the singing. So thank you very much!

After two hours with church we had to handshake everybody and then we stood in a sircel and they auctioned off two prayer benches.
My thoughts about this church visit was that it was very booring, and I can't actually say that I wan't to do it again. It is an english church service that is starting soon, but I don't know if we are going. We didn't use to go to the church in Norway, so it is actually kind of weird if we are going to do it here.
I am sorry but I do not have any picture of this.

Shopping!

On saturday we went to town to shop some clothes for me. We was in a lot of shops, and found some very cool things. The problem was that the cool things was either something I didn't need or something to warm. But on the way home we was in two second hand stores. They had a lot of clothes, and very cheap. So of course I bought something! And here you can see them:

All of them I bought for about 15-20NOK/2.5-3.5USD

We'we got a pet!

Hi there!

Today my dad actually found a little chicken in our garden. If we let it alone, it will probably be eaten up by some other animal, so my dad made a little "house" for the chicken. So now maybe it will stay with us, i dont know! We want to give it a name, but we don't know if it is a boy or a girl.

Isn't it cute<3?

Turtles!

On saturday we went to a island called Prison island. There it is a park with a lot of turtles. You can pat the turtles or/and just look at them. Every turtle had a number written on the shell, the number was how old the turtle was. The oldest one was 189 years old!

The school!

The school is very nice, but very different from the school in Norway. We learn english, french and swahili. I am allso taking norwegian at the internet, so I am learning 4 diferent languages!
At the school you can choose a club. The club you choose is a sport/instrument you will be doing on tuesdays and thursdays. I chose swimming. We allso have swimming 1 time a week, so I have 3 times every week. The swimming is a bit hard, because everyone at the school is very good, but I am not good at all! They have something they call freestyle in the swimming, and that means to crawl. I can't even crawl right, so it is kind of hard. Now we are learning delfin hop...
